In most states, the only documents you need to sell a vehicle privately are an odometer statement, bill of sale, and the title. Many states price and mileage fields printed on their vehicle titles, which means the only document you need is the title. Just make sure both you and your buyer completely fill out and sign all necessary fields on the title, and then retain a copy for your records! (A picture works just fine.) That way, if the vehicle is involved in an incident and anyone comes to you with questions, you’ll have a record of releasing your liability for the vehicle.
